Melissa Marquez is a second-year graduate student in the Chemistry Department. She is a biochemist working in Dr. Deborah Perlstein�s lab, which focuses on elucidating the eukaryotic cytosolic iron-sulfur cluster assembly (CIA) pathway. Melissa studies protein-protein interactions within the CIA system in order to understand how a diverse set of target proteins of the pathway are identified and inserted with iron-sulfur clusters.
Melissa is partnered with Melissa London who teaches sixth grade at the Pierce School in Brookline. Melissa and Ms. London will work together to integrate global change concepts into the existing curriculum, which covers the Earth system, cells and the central nervous system. In order to gain a greater understanding of what science is, students will consistently refer back to the framework for science introduced at the beginning of the year: body of knowledge, method and processes and way of thinking/mindset.
