Eli Melaas is a 6th year Ph.D. student working with Professor Mark Fried in the Department of Earth and Environment. His research is focused on coupling field measurements, remote sensing and modeling studies of phenology. Specifically, he is interested in improving understanding of how climate drivers control the timing of spring leaf out and autumn coloring and how future changes in growing season length will affect net carbon exchange. |
Eli is teaching at the Baker School in Brookline with Yasameen Sharif. Yasameen teaches both 6th and 7th grade science. Together, Eli and Yasameen are working to increase awareness of global climate change and its effects on humans, plants, and the oceans. Specifically, Eli plans to use satellite imagery with students in order to help further their understanding of patterns in vegetation on land and in water across regional scales. Eli and Yasameen are focused on bringing more technology and group discussion of science-related current events into the classroom. |
