Scott Gillard is a 3rd year graduate student working with Dr. Vinod Sarin in the division of Material Science at Boston University. Scott is currently writing his prospectus in the area of novel fabrication techniques of advanced scintillating material for X-ray sensors. |
Scott is partnered with William McDonald at the Putnam Avenue Upper School in Cambridge Massachusetts. Together they will implement an 8th grade curriculum that emphasizes the effect of forces at a distance. These forces broadly include electromagnetism, gravity, motion, earth systems, and evolution. Scott will utilize his expertise in material science and physics in the areas of electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena to foster an atmosphere of scientific inquiry through demonstration, lab activities, and one-on-one interaction. Current curriculum plans include introducing topics such as the electromagnetic spectrum, how to build a motor, the difference between climate and weather, the earth as a system, the greenhouse effect ,and the effect of sea level change. |
